Energy Audits

Home energy audits are a great way to evaluate all the systems in your home to understand how they are working together (or not) to provide you optimal comfort levels. The audit will help you make decisions on energy efficiency improvements you think are the most important for your health, your comfort, your budget, and the environment.

Your audit will be conducted by an accredited building performance auditor with over ten years of experience.

You can expect the following during your audit:

Visual Inspections

We dive into your attics, crawl spaces, and basements for insulation and ventilation inspections. We go into the places in your home that you don’t want to explore.

Indoor Air Quality Testing

We test for natural gas leaks and carbon monoxide in your furnace and water heater exhaust. You will know for sure if you have anything to worry about.

Efficiency Evaluations

We test how efficient your heating and cooling equipment and ductwork system are. Efficiency is doing things right!

Blower Door Testing

This measures the total amount of drafts in your home and compares it to indoor air quality standards and new construction standards. Let’s see how your home measures up!

Thermal Infrared Scans

These scans identify missing or flawed insulation and locate the source of your drafts and air leaks. No more chilly nights!

Your Report

You will receive a clear and easy-to-understand report on our findings and a proposal to begin planning to make enhancements. Let’s lower your bills!

Suggestions

We provide solutions to improve your home’s specific issues with efficiency to provide the most comfort. You decide what you want done and when.

Rebates & Credits

Details on available energy efficiency rebates, tax credits, and financing. Let’s save you as much money as possible!

Insulation

Your attic is a protective barrier between your home and the weather outside. If your home does not have the right amount of insulation, your heating and cooling systems have to work harder to keep your home comfortable year-round. Proper attic insulation provides even temperatures throughout your home.

The best way to determine what type of insulation your home needs is a FREE home energy assessment.

We specialized in the following options for improving the insulation in your home:

Spray Foam (Attic, Pole Barn, Walls, Ceilings, whole houses, and many more places)

If your home energy audit reveals that spray foam insulation is the right choice for your home, our trained installation crew will install a quality product while following the latest industry standards.

Spray foam is one product that provides two things – an air seal and insulation. It also reduces noise and provides added structural stability.

Spray foam’s unique expansion properties makes it the perfect product for several types of spaces, including:
● Attics & Crawlspaces
● Basement Rim Joists
● Overhangs or Cantilevers
● Bonus Rooms and Additions
● Pole Barns and Garages

Cellulose Insulation (Attic, Walls, Ceilings, whole houses, and many more places)

Blown-in cellulose insulation is used in a variety of homes from historic restorations to new builds and additions. This type of insulation is made right here in Michigan. It consists of 85% recycled newspapers and is a better insulator than fiberglass. (It has a higher R-value and better air sealing qualities.)

Plus, it’s a lot more friendly to the environment and the person installing it.

If your home has any of the following problems, cellulose insulation might be the right solution:
● Cold rooms in the winter
● Hot rooms in the summer (especially the 2nd floor)
● Uneven temperatures throughout the house
● Heavy icicles
● Ice dams

Air Sealing

Air sealing is the icing on the cake when it comes to energy efficiency improvements and weatherization for your home. It increases your indoor air quality, lowers your utility bills, and allows all of the systems in your home to work more efficiently together.

Not all drafts come from windows. Sometimes hidden gaps in your home’s construction can cause drafts. In fact, most drafts are a byproduct of the air leaking out through the attic, causing a negative pressure on the home that needs to be replaced with outside air.  Common areas include top plates, electrical and plumbing penetrations, drop ceiling soffits, recessed lights, and basement rim joists.

We will identify the true cause of your drafts and use reliable materials such as expanding foam, caulk, and spray foam to eliminate air leaks at their source.

Air sealing is something that really sets us apart from other insulators. Typically, they will simply add more insulation without taking the time to stop the air leakage. It is a tedious, dirty job but from our years of experience and training, we understand the huge benefits of this service.

We always include an evaluation and a discussion about air sealing during any insulation project so you can make the best decisions for your home.

Duct Sealing

Your ducts have an important job. They provide consistent air flow from the furnace and air conditioner and are key to the overall energy efficiency of your home.  Unfortunately, this is often overlooked in home inspection, but a Home Performance Solutions energy audit will reveal the truth.

We check all of your ductwork for leaks and gaps to ensure no air is escaping and causing your HVAC system to work harder than necessary – which costs you money on your utility bills. Leaky ducts can also reduce the air quality in your home.

Duct sealing is required in all new residential construction. We average a 20% increase in the air flow coming from your registers. This is extremely beneficial if your furnace is not centrally located.

HVAC

The typical homeowner will replace a furnace or air conditioner when it fails, which is often during extreme weather. This can force the homeowner to make a rush decision without taking the proper time to have a Free Energy Assessment to determine the best type of system for the home.

Getting an audit done before there is a problem is the best way to ensure you are making the right decisions for your home that will provide the most comfort for the longest time.

We provide the following HVAC services:

● Furnace Replacement & Service
● AC Replacement & Service
● Whole Home Filtration
● Humidification/Dehumidification

Through strategic partnerships, we can also assist with electrical and solar projects!
